Starting Services via Ambari fails on Client Installation

Due to a defect in Ambari 2.6 and newer, there is a possibility that attempts to start services via "Start All" (either for all Services, or an individual service) will fail on Client installation with an error similar to the following (the component name may vary):

No package found for hbase_${stack_version}(hbase_(\d|_)+$)

This is due to https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-22652, which is further documented at https://community.hortonworks.com/idea/181811/hdp-264-installation-fails.html.

There are two workarounds for this:

  1. On all hosts registered in the Ambari environment, and on the Ambari server its self, modify /usr/lib/ambari-agent/lib/resource_management/libraries/script/script.py to remove or comment out line 541, and then restart ambari-server via sudo ambari-server restart.

    This line should be:

    package_version = None

  2. If a restart of Ambari Server is not feasible for whatever reason, you can bypass this issue by going into individual hosts in the Hosts menu in Ambari's UI, and start the services on a host by host basis.
