Nginx welcome page is displayed instead of the Reporting login page

Issue

Nginx welcome page is displayed instead of the Reporting UI login page.

Cause

This is caused when the nginx version (1.10) is upgraded to a newer version (1.12) where the nginx.conf is overwritten.

Resolution Steps

There are several steps to take in order to:

  • Validate nginx version
  • Modify nginx.conf/Reload Reporting UI login page

Validate nginx version

  1. SSH to the REPORTING NODE as the Interset User
  2. Type in the following command to list the version of nginx installed:
    • sudo yum list installed | grep nginx
  3. The output will be similar (if not identical) to the following:
    • x86_64 1:1.12.2-1.el7.ngx

Modify nginx.conf

  1. SSH to the REPORTING NODE as the Interset User
  2. Type in the following command edit the nginx.conf:
    • sudo vim /etc/nginx/nginx.conf
  3. Look for the following section in the nginx.conf, and comment it out:
    •     server {
    •         listen       80 default_server;
    •         listen       [::]:80 default_server;
    •         server_name  _;
    •         root         /usr/share/nginx/html;
    •
    •       # Load configuration files for the default server block.
    •         include /etc/nginx/default.d/*.conf;
    •
    •        location / {
    •         }
    •
    •        error_page 404 /404.html;
    •             location = /40x.html {
    •         }
    •
    •        error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html;
    •             location = /50x.html {
    •         }
    •     }
  4. Once the section above is commented out, save and exit the nginx.conf
  5. Type in the following command to restart nginx:
    • For EL6
      • sudo service nginx restart
    • For EL7
      • sudo systemctl restart nginx
  6. Once nginx is restarted, open up a web browser and navigate to the Reporting UI URL:
