Reporting UI webpage does not load

Issue

When attempting to access the Reporting UI login page, the following error message is displayed for its respective browser:

  • Chrome - This site can't be reached
  • Safari - Safari can't connect to the Server
  • Internet Explorer 11 - Can't reach this page
  • Microsoft Edge - Hmmm…can't reach this page
  • Firefox - The connection has timed out

Cause

This generally occurs because nginx on the REPORTING NODE, which is used to service up the Reporting UI website, is not running.

Resolution Steps

Verify nginx status

  1. SSH to the REPORTING NODE as the Interset User
  2. Type in the following command to check on the status of nginx:
    • For EL6
      • sudo service nginx status
    • For EL7
      • sudo systemctl status nginx
  3. If the Active status is inactive, this indicates that nginx is not running. Type in the following command to start nginx:
    • For EL6
      • sudo service nginx start
    • For EL7
      • sudo systemctl start nginx
  4. If the Active status is failed, this indicates that nginx was forcefully terminated. Type in the following command to navigate to the nginx log (/var/log/nginx) directory:
    • cd /var/log/nginx
  5. Type the following command to view the error.log file:
    • sudo less error.log
  6. Hit the following key combination to jump to the end of the error.log file:
    • Shift + G
  7. The log file may throw an emerg error similar to the following:
    • XXXX/XX/XX XX:XX:XX [emerg] 21764#21764: unknown directive "XXXXXXXXXXX" in /etc/nginx/conf.d/interset.conf:2
      • NOTE: If the error is different, please consult the Interset Knowledgebase or contact Interset Support
  8. If the error is indeed the above, this means there is a configuration issue on a specific line:
    • EXAMPLE: /etc/nginx/conf.d/interset.conf:2 - line 1 of the interset.conf
  9. Correct the issue in the interset.conf file.
  10. Once the error is resolved, type in the following command to restart nginx:
    • For EL6
      • sudo service nginx start
    • For EL7
      • sudo systemctl start nginx

Applies To

  • Interset 5.4.x or higher
